Photographed the wedding of Lee-Anne and Ruairi at the end of a very busy season of summer weddings towards the end of September. In the last few days of the autumn light before the days began to get shorter and winter started to grab hold. I do like summertime but two of my favourite seasons to photograph in are Spring and Autumn. The light appeals to me more at these two times during the year. Summertime with its direct light can be somewhat unforgiving and is not always the best light to work with. In Springtime and Autumn the light can have a more diffused softer quality about it even if the sun is fully out.
I met Lee-Anne, the father of bride and mother of the bride (aka mum and dad) along with her bridesmaids at her house for the bridal prep. The bridal hair and makeup was in full swing with everyone having great fun enjoying some champagne and having great laugh. The hair and makeup finished on time which allowed me to have plenty of time to capture some candid images as well as some formal pictures on the morning. Lee-Anne and her bridesmaids were a pleasure to work with very friendly and easy going which made photographing them a walk in the park.
Similar to Lee-Anne, Ruairi had a very easy way about him, natural and very friendly. I met him and his groomsmen at Kilconieron church in Co.Galway prior to the wedding ceremony where I managed to get a great selection of pictures. The wedding ceremony was officiated by a lovely priest who managed to have some fun while retaining the importance of what was happening.
After the ceremony was over and the couple had walked down the aisle as newly-weds I concentrated on doing the family pictures which again ran very smoothly in no small part to the fact that everyone involved was very co-operative.
Afterwards Lee-Anne, Ruairi and I headed back to their house where the day had begun for some couple photos. Their house meant a lot to them both, it was as they said their forever home. I think as a photographer it’s important to be flexible when it comes to locations for pictures. Sometimes as in this instance the location will have significance to either the bride or groom and its importance not to run off with the idea that photographer knows best as to where the wedding pictures should be taken. I also find that the simplest of locations are often the best as was the case here, remember cascading waterfalls and seascapes are not always available. An Irish country road and a lovely home is sometimes what works best. Then it was time to head to The Meadow Court Hotel to party the night away with a nod to Harry Potter.
Congratulations Lee-Anne and Ruairi and thanks for having me as your wedding photographer. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.
