Had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Orlagh and Gary a few weeks back at The Glasson Lakehouse in Glasson Co. Westmeath. The morning started off at Orlagh’s parents house in Banagher, Co. Offaly where I got a great welcome. What a brilliant bunch of people to be around the bridal prep was just great fun everyone was in mighty form and up for the craic. Orlagh and her bridesmaids awesome personalities, and I soon realised where this up for the craic attitude came from, Orlagh’s Mum and Dad were also of the same disposition along with the rest of her family. Orlagh a natural beauty she had a great way about her and was very easy to photograph she lent herself to the process with effortless ease. The bridal prep ran very smoothly, and we even had time to take out the bins for her Dad. Orlagh played Gaelic football for Offaly similar to her Dad who also played for the county. With the bridal prep running to schedule and the church only a few minutes away I had plenty of time for pictures at her parents’ house. Luckily for me the light was and coming in the right direction hitting the house at the front and was painted in white and I used it as a big reflector to bounce light back into the scene. The light was not directional more of a broad wash of light and the sun acted as a hair light which also added some dimension to the images.
I met Gary an absolute gentleman, and the lads at the church and they were also great fun and just natural people to be around. They trusted me and gave themselves to the process, I always find that when people adopt this attitude it always results in the best outcome in terms of pictures, and you particularly get an idea of the personalities being photographed after all we as photographers that is our role to convey a story. This fun attitude also ran through the ceremony with their priest being a lovely man who knew the family well. Family photographs were done on the grounds of the church. I find that doing this always allows wedding couples time to enjoy the drinks reception later in the day. After the church we headed to a nearby location her where Orlagh spent a lot of time when she was a child. This turned out to be a great place for wedding pictures. Then we headed to The Glasson Lakehouse, just fabulous wedding venue and place where photographers are spoilt for choice when it comes to photographing a wedding. The options are many, tree lined walks, rolling countryside and the lake along with the physical building that has a really cool vibe. I photographed the speeches and worked up until the first dance, to be honest it didn’t feel like work as it was a great wedding to be part of.
So a big shout out to Orlagh and Gary, your family and friends I really enjoyed the day with you all and thank you for having me as part of your wedding day.
Below are some images from the day.
