Before Christmas I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Sarah & James, two gentle souls that were an absolute pleasure to work with. The morning started at The Hardiman Hotel on Eyre Square in Galway City. The Hardiman Hotel as it is now called has being a long standing hotel in Galway and is a real part of the Galway City social scene and part of the history of this unique part of Ireland.
As I mentioned earlier the morning started at The Hardiman Hotel where I met Sarah the bride to be and the rest of her bridesmaids along with the mother of the bride and some family members also. The bridal prep hair and makeup was in full swing and running to schedule in no small part to the skills of two absolute professionals, Colette from Collette Costello Bridal Hair looking after the bridal hair and bridal makeup by Fiona from C Beauty.
I had great fun with Sarah and her girls they were open to any suggestions that I made in relation to what was best in terms of photography. Because of everything running to schedule I had plenty of time to concentrate on getting what I needed in terms of individual bridal portraits of Sarah. And as time wasn’t an issue It also meant that everybody was relaxed and this also allowed me to capture a lot of candid documentary images of Sarah and her bridesmaids having fun and chatting to one another..
James was waiting patiently at St. Nicholas’s Church which was at the opposite end of Eyre Square only a few minutes away. I often find the couples personalities can mirror each other and this was the case hear too. James was an absolute gentleman and I enjoyed being in his company. I grabbed some quick pictures of him and his groomsmen along with his parents before the arrival of Sarah his bride to be.
St. Nicholas’s Church is a gorgeous church steeped in history and a fabulous location for a wedding, however you do need to be on your toes from a photographic point of view in terms of squeezing any of the available light that is presented to you. The wedding ceremony was presided over by friendly and welcoming Reverend whose name escapes me, my apologies to her although I doubt she will ever get to read this feeble attempt at writing.
Unfortunately because of the time of year the weather was not on our side and I photographed all of the family pictures in the church which worked out perfectly.
We then decided to head to the grounds of NUIG which was also nearby, I really do love weddings that are not punctuated by long car journeys. There I photographed a wide range of couple portraits, single and individual images along with some bridal party photographs.
As I mentioned earlier everybody was open to suggestions in terms of the photography with made my job an absolute breeze as I could concentrate on getting the best wedding photographs for Sarah and James.
Then it was time to head back to The Hardiman Hotel for the wedding reception and party. Sarah and James had opted for my Extended Photography Coverage which meant that I was there to cover the speeches and first dance. I also got to do some nigh time images outside the front of the hotel, always a fitting way I think to finish of the wedding day story.
Sarah and James a big thank you from Dillon Photography I thoroughly enjoyed being part of your wedding day.
