2020 what a year, COVID certainly has played havoc with everyone’s lives and livelihoods nobody has escaped it in one form or another. Certainly for me as a photographer whose primary income is that of a wedding photographer COVID pretty much flatlined weddings for 2020. There ends the moan.
Despite COVID I was lucky enough to shoot a very small amount of weddings certainly a lot less than I am normally used to photographing.
One such wedding was that of Aideen and Chris back at the end of October whose ceremony was held in Ballymacward Church and reception was held in The Loughrea Hotel & Spa. It was an intimate affair because of the restriction on the number guests that were allowed to attend but that didn’t have an impact on what was a really, really, nice wedding. The morning started off at Aideen’s parent’s house for the bridal prep a few minutes from the church. It was a great location for pictures, the house had great character and seem to shape the light in certain directions and the trick was to find the best place to put the camera to take full advantage of what it was giving. Normally I’m a big fan of off camera flash, but it wasn’t a day a day for off camera flash, it was a case of taking advantage of what nature was giving. Sorry I was sitting here beginning to like the sound of my own voice, I could have said the light was great I didn’t need flash!
Fr. Sweeney the local parish priest presided over the ceremony, he’s just an absolutely lovely man, funny, sincere and a gentleman. I met Chris the groom at the church before Aideen arrived, both they and their families were a pleasure to work with and you couldn’t meet nicer people. After the ceremony before heading to The Loughrea Hotel & Spa we stopped off for a few pictures on a country lane just down the road from Aideen’s parent’s house, I spotted it on the way to the church and thought it was a good location. Some quick pictures also at Woodlawn Train Station, followed by a stop at Loughrea Lake a great location for wedding photography. We also came across other gentleman who were also taking the plunge albeit a different kind of plunge.
The Loughrea Hotel & Spa is a great location for your wedding and it’s complimented by having the lake just a few minutes away along with Woodville Walled Garden as another option for your wedding photography.
Here’s to much more wedding days in 2021,
Take care.
