I photographed the wedding of Caroline and Liam back in February of 2020 before all of this COVID craziest kicked in. What a wonderful couple they were to work with as were their families and bridal party, just full of fun and ready to party. As with a lot of Irish weddings the weather had it’s say and didn’t co-operate it rained the whole day but that did not dampen spirits.
The morning kicked off at Caroline’s parents’ house for the bridal prep where everything ran to schedule with hair and makeup. Which in turn made my job much easier as there was plenty of time to take as much images as needed. This also had the knock on effect of everyone getting comfortable with me pointing a camera in their direction. It goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway once people become comfortable with your presence and let their guard down that’s when the best pictures happen. In my opinion that last thing that should be remembered is the photographer.
The wedding ceremony took place at Labane Church in Co. Galway, this was where I met Liam the groom. I often find that the personality of the bride is always a good indication of what the groom’s personality will be and true to form Liam was an absolute gentleman. The ceremony ran smoothly and efficiently thanks in no small to the priest who ran the show and whose name I can’t recall. Apologies to that man if he ever has the misfortune to read my attempt at butchering the English language.
As with all weddings we had a plan in place for the bridal shoot but as I mentioned early it was a lovely soft, soft, day as they say in these parts and that plan went out the window along with the rain. So we headed instead to the very well-known landmark Moran’s of The Weir in Kilcolgan Co. Galway which was on the way to the reception venue. There was no option of taking pictures outside which meant going to plan B, which in this case meant me not forcing things to get pictures. After all there would be no nice outdoor walking pictures with blue skies etc. with the couple laughing and joking with their bridal party. Instead experience has though me to bide my time and opportunities for pictures will arise as they did in this case. Goes back to what I mentioned earlier if you start to force things you could be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
After the bridal party had a few nibbles, giggles and the odd pint of Guinness it was time to head to The Clayton Hotel in Galway City to party the night away.
Below are a small selection of some of the images that were photographed on the day.
