I have photographed quite a few military weddings over the years and they are always enjoyable and fun to be part of. Let’s just say military personnel know how to enjoy themselves, maybe it’s a case of a wedding being a celebration that allows them drop their guard from the normal structured routine of army life. I’m only surmising here as I have no experience of military life but I do have great admiration for anybody who has or had a career in the military and the discipline and dedication it takes.
The wedding of Síle and Adrian was no different two brilliant souls and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of their wedding day. The bridal prep was at Síle’s parents house, in Co. Kilkenny where I received a great welcome everybody was very friendly and up for a bit of craic. In this part of Ireland the game of hurling is well I won’t say it’s life or death but it’s close and Síle’s father has been a proud supporter of the black and amber for many years. She also wanted to get a picture of her wedding dress that incorporated an element of the farm that she had grown up in. So we decided to take her wedding dress out and hang it up on the door of one of the out houses. Anytime that a wedding dress is brought outside and is not being worn by the bride gives me the terrors but luckily enough nothing happened to the dress and it returned safely inside again.
Síle was just stunning and Adrian handsome, you can never fault a man in uniform.
After the ceremony which was held in a lovely countryside church in Ballyouskill we headed to Castle Durrow for the wedding celebration. I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed many weddings there over the years. Before heading into the castle we stopped in Durrow village for some quick pictures outside Bob’s bar (rolling back the years) and on the bridge that was part of the original road to Dublin.
Castle Durrow’s interior is great for wedding photography with the elegant staircase and beautiful rooms, but the grounds and the walled garden are just brilliant locations for family and bridal party pictures. There always seems to be a natural relaxed vibe here at weddings and maybe that’s to do with the location but I also think it has something to do with the management and staff that run the castle, very friendly, welcoming and professional.
I look forward to getting back there again.
Take care.
