Micro weddings are the new normality at the moment due to the current restrictions that are in place as of Spring 2021. While traditional Irish weddings have been large scale events with many in attendance micro weddings are quite popular now for couples who have decided not to put their life plans on hold because of the situation that that the world finds itself in currently.
A recent micro wedding that I had the pleasure of being part of was that of Orla and Lucas. I have photographed many large scale weddings over the years and whilst they are great fun and thoroughly enjoyable to be part of intimate is not a word that would be used to describe them.
However this is not the case with a micro wedding everything about Orla’s and Lucas’s wedding was intimate. Their wedding ceremony took place in a marquee that was erected at the back at Orla’s parent’s house in on the outskirts of Galway City. Lucas the groom travelled from Canada and he was joined by his parents who also made the trip, not an easy feat in current times. In fact the bridal party was made up of both sets of parents as no bridesmaids or groomsmen could be in attendance. Orla’s father commented on how enjoyable it was for them to be fully involved both in the bridal prep and general planning which would normally be associated with their bridal party.
Orla a natural beauty did have a mini bride squad with her hair and make-up which was done by Collette Costello and Nicola Belton. Both of the aforementioned I highly recommend as they are excellent at what they do. The celebrant for their wedding was Michael Grace, a really lovely man who performed a beautiful warm ceremony. It’s a testament to Orla and Lucas how they adapted their wedding plans and pulled off such an enjoyable occasion. Their original plan was the get married at The Lodge in Ashford a fabulous wedding venue with over a hundred wedding guests in attendance.
After the ceremony we headed into Galway City for a planned bridal shoot the weather wasn’t on our side it was raining and blowing a gale. Some locations were closed and others were restricted so we were using plan B quite a lot. But they were absolute troopers and totally in love, with smiles on their faces all day. Vinny from VOS Weddings (somebody I also highly recommend for wedding films) who was shooting the video along with myself, we were a little worried that they would get cold as it was very windy and wet, but Lucas reminded us that he was from Canada. Thank you both for having us as part of your wedding day.
Micro weddings a little different but no less enjoyable.
